Situated between the UK’s two biggest cities - London and Birmingham – Oxford is very well positioned in the UK. Primarily, it is around an hour from two major UK cities. This makes it an ideal commuting base for both North and South travel. Transportation companies frequently operate from within Oxfordshire. It is conveniently situated in the dense South-east of the UK and it has direct access major road networks - the M40/M6 north, the M4 west and the A34 south.
Education and schooling is Oxford’s most famous component and industry, both past and present. Both private and free schools attract huge numbers of students from the surrounding areas, London and overseas. The northern part Oxford has seven well-known schools and the inner city has many more. Oxford University is a prolific, world renowned university - one of the world’s top 10. It attracts thousands of students, postgraduates and staff from all over the world. Many of these live on-site and in and around Oxford. In addition to the main, historical Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University is an ever-increasing component in Oxford’s increasing demand for housing, too.

Strong Local Economy

Oxford is home to many prolific and cutting-edge industries ranging from scientific industries in cryogenics to engineering industries in motor racing, particularly Formula 1. The likes of BMW MINI, Oxford Instruments, Sophos and the Diamond Light project all have world-class facilities in Oxford, too. These world-leading companies add considerable value and demand to Oxford’s housing market. Within every town or city, there is likely to be some small areas of social decline. In Oxford, whilst these areas exist, they are very much limited. Crime is very low in most of its surround towns and villages, too.

Oxfordshire has been long revered as one the prettiest counties in the country. Quaint local pubs are set in grassy areas which provide peace and quiet. Oxfordshire offers sophisticated living without the sacrifice of the great outdoors. Oxfordshire simply is a fantastic place, and most would agree on this!

The Strategic Market Housing Authority (SMHA) for Oxford and its surrounding areas have stated that the county needs approximately 100,000 new homes by 2031, equivalent to well over 5000 brand-new properties or homes a year.
Protected Lands
Oxfordshire is set in the English heartland and as such, a huge amount of the country is protected land under the Green Belt act. This results in repeated issues with house placement and development and it’s one of the single most important factors in influencing. Oxfordshire is also flat and many rivers flow over its meadows and plains. Whilst Oxfordshire doesn’t experience major flooding, it is still a restricting factor.
Buildings Restrictions
Oxford is a true historical city and the views of its ‘dreaming spires’ are protected from multiple angles. Its medieval providence and history is well protected, limiting developer access to any building of substantial height.
Local Council
Oxford’s local authorities have been indecisive over the last decade due to the historical providence of some of its areas and its green belt status. Oxford City Council has called on other councils to provide more housing for Oxford residents - they suggest there is space for a maximum of 900 to 1000 houses in Oxford.

Didcot, near Oxford, is a formerly rural area which is twinned with Meylan in south-east France. Didcot is now a fairly large but popular market town. It’s been developed to include modern housing and amenities. Didcot has more room for expansion.

Didcot’s recent developments now benefit the town with a great range of facilities and amenities. First and foremost, the recently added Orchard shopping centre with a selection of 26 shops and restaurants will be open in April 2018. Didcot is now also served by major supermarkets like Sainsbury’s and Tesco. It has all the usual town facilities like banks, doctor’s surgeries and health centres, a small hospital, vets and dentists and recreational facilities that include a cinema and sports centre with gym and swimming pool.
Didcot is highly accessible, served via the A34 Oxford Winchester route and near to Milton, Culham, Harwell and Abingdon Business Parks. This route leads to the M40 (Northbound) and M4 (Southbound). Furthermore, Didcot Parkway station provides an easy commute to Oxford, Reading and London (Paddington c.40 mins). Ladygrove, another nearby village/town is well provided itself. It has primary schools, a medical clinic, a dentist, shops and pubs.
Abingdon is a historic and pretty market town with riverside walks in the county of Oxfordshire. Abingdon has played host to a number of information communication companies, with many based in the town's respective business and science parks. With this, and the result of Abingdon's proximity to academic and scientific institutions in Oxford, the town has seen an influx of young professionals taking residence in the town's many residential areas.
